National Brittany Grouse Championship Association (NBOGCA) is holding its Spring wild bird field trial at the Gladwin Game Refuge on April 29 & 30th. In addition to the regular Open Puppy, Open Derby, and Open Shooting Dog stakes, we have added a new stake designed to attract those pointing dog enthusiasts who own breeds other that English Setters and Pointers. The first Restricted Breed Open Shooting Dog Qualifier will run that weekend. “Restricted Breed” in this case means the stake is restricted to pointing breeds OTHER that English Setters & Pointers. So we are urging and welcoming not only the “Continental” Breeds, but Irish, Red, and Gordon Setters as well. “Qualifier” means that the stake is open only to dogs who have NOT earned a placement in any other adult stake. Judges for this April event are veterans Tammy Chaffee & Kenny DeLong. We will run this same half-hour stake again at our summer trial August 26 & 27. Our objective here is to allow as many dogs as possible to earn placements that will qualify them to run in our
Restricted Breed Open Grouse Championship at Gladwin later this year the weekend of October 7 & 8.
The Gladwin Game Refuge is one of the premier wild bird field trial venues in the country, managed exclusively for grouse and woodcock since 1916. There are 16 continuous half hour courses over a few thousand rolling acres of varied terrain. The grounds are gorgeous and the folks are friendly! We encourage you to enter your dog. We welcome pros and amateurs, veterans and newcomers!
