I agree Ray.
Bob Wehle gave me my first Elhew dog in 1979 and most every dog I've had since then has had a preponderance of Elhew blood. Certainly most if not all have been extremely intelligent, physically pleasing to the eye and most importantly (to me anyway) a kind, loving disposition that makes them want to please. Most have been equally comfortable in the kennel or house and on the front seat of the truck.
I admired Bob Wehle's dedication to a high standard and principles of breeding and genetics. Unlike many litters available today, he did not just depend on the trial record of the sire. He kept only the highest quality females and seriously studied her qualities and chose a sire to compliment or improve them.
It is true that the line developed some problems and that Bob recognized the necessity of outcrossing. Some of the most successful Elhew dogs were the result of those crosses.
I have a young dog right now, Elhew Allegiant, that just turned two. Scott Chaffee ran him as a shooting dog this fall and he had grouse finds in every trial. Dave Hughes has him now and you should watch for him this spring as I think he'll be a very good one.
