I thought I'd post a message for myself and one of my old dogs that passed....just for some closure. One of my old setter bird dogs died this morning. He was sneaking up on 14 years of age. Lord knows he's better off. The poor old guy couldn't get around good, couldn't see well, or hear much of anything anymore. About all he could do was wag that old tail. He had been with my closest buddy for the last half of his life. We hunted many a mile behind that old dog. He was a 65 pound male, white black and ticked. He worked pretty slow, and steady, but always in the right places. Always out front, never had to say much to him. He had a great attitude, a great nose as well. I think he must have been born broke. I got him when he was 13 months old and he was as broke then as he ever was. Never took birds out, always backed as far as he could see. He was just a pleasure to be around. He came from Paul Grogger's Suncanyon kennel. His sire was Paul's old favorite, Passenger's Blue Shadow. His dam was Suncanyon's Sheba. The picture below was taken at the Tulsa Bird Dog Club....just one of the days he did me proud. He got second out of 30 dogs. His name was Champ and anyone who knew him will never forget him.
