First thing to try is different jack cables, then try different guitar.
If the amp is quite old, try replacing the reservoir capacitor in the power supply. It might have dried up. This is usually a big bucket looking thing, probably rated between 470µF and 2200µF. When replacing, take care to put it in the right way round or you could have some .... interesting results. I know it sounds obvious but please make sure the amp is switched off when desoldering / soldering and be careful because electrolytic capatitors hold charge sometimes. Hope this helps ...
