I did not take the chemo cocktail you are asking about, but if someone told me chances of a distant recurrence is 14%, I would have to seriously consider it.
I had adriamycin/cytoxin and taxol - 4 rounds of each. The first one is the 'beast of all beasts' according to my chemo nurse. They ALL have potential side effects. I took COQ10 (heart protection) and silymarin (liver protection) all through chemo (WITH ONC PERMISSION, OF COURSE). It certainly wasn't any fun, but got throught it fine. I was 59 at the time. 5 cm tumor (lumpectomy) and positive lymph nodes (removed).
I have had no trouble at all recovering from chemo or radiation. I felt back to myself probably a month or two after radiation. You won't have rads, so you really should do well.
Everyone is different, so there is no way for you to know how you would do. I always fear having to look at myself in the mirror one day and saying 'why didn't i????'
If I were you, I think I would seek another opinion just to see what a different Onc would say. You have a lot of years ahead of you.
HUGS!!!
