Before beginning Taxotere (a sister drug to Taxol)my onc nurse let me know that my nails would become tender, turn yellow, form ridges, and eventually fall off. Towards the beginning of my treatment my nailbeds were extremly tender. As my treatment progressed the tenderness wore off. Towards the middle of my treatment my nails (finger and toe) became thick, yellow, and ridged. Once treatment stopped all of my nails fell off and were replaced by fresh, short nails.
My last Taxotere treatment was in November. I just went and got my first pedi/mani last week.
I'm not sure if there is anything you can do to "save" your nails. I know some girls suggest rubbing vitamin E on the nailbeds. I just threw some dark polish over them while in treatment and went with the flow.
