Since I had cancerous lymph nodes, I had a PET scan before chemo even started. She may not have a PET scan at all. I just assumed I would have another one after chemo, but my Onc said since the tumors were removed, there was no need for an additional PET scan. It takes a rather large tumor to even show up on a PET scan (I forget what size it has to be). One of the hardest parts of dealing with BC is the fact that there is no real way to tell if it returns until there are symptoms.
I'm so sorry the Taxol is causing her problems. A/C was so wicked for me and Taxol was nothing. I did have some bone pain, but it went away after I was finished. I was off for a month before I started radiation. No big deal there - just have to go every day. If you can remember, have the techs protect her thyroid during treatments. There is a posting about it on the 'survivor' board.
Hang in there! You're doing a great job. She would probably say it's harder for you than it is for her.
HUGS.
