My 1st chemo was Nov.18, same day I got the port installed. Port seemed too swollen and bruised around it. However, I assumed it would finally heal correctly, the vast majority of ports do just fine, from what the nurses told me. We stayed home on Thanksg, didn't go to visit relatives as usual, because it was the first week of chemo. (I think it would have been fine, my main bad day was just the day after) However, we did go visit last tuesday and were with my Mom on her actual birthday for a change! Had a great time. She is having a hard time with all this, naturally. However, the port started being red and hotish around it, then got red streaks! We were on the way home when I called the Dr.'s office. To make a long story a little shorter, wound up in the emergency room instead of getting home on friday. Port was removed on Sat., released on Sun - after several rounds of Vincomycin (sp?). Home now with another antibiotic to take. The crowner is my hair just started falling out about an hour ago. I ran my hand through it, thinking I need to wash it, and..there it goes. My son had cut it shorter, but now I will have it cut maybe an inch long, then when the clumps start, maybe super short. I am really pretty calm (right now) about the whole hair thing, but I know it may not last. I just needed to vent a bit, and am very long-winded when I get started writing. Thanks for reading my rambling. Hugs and Support
