Hi Robyn,
I, too, have a port. It has never bothered me having it in, and I just felt a tiny bit of pain for about 2 seconds when I got stuck . . . much less than if you had to have multiple needle sticks for taking blood and getting the chemo. Actually, the worst part for me was when she sprayed something on the port . . . I am extremely chemically sensitive and I couldn't stand the smell of it.
The only "glitch" I had was for two of my eight treatments and it was nothing to be concerned with.
When my chemo nurse tried to take blood, she couldn't get any. There was a "clot" in the port that prevented this. Don't be worried about this if it happens to you, though . . . it is NOT a big deal, it just happens sometimes. She administered Heparin, I waited about 20-30 minutes, and the clot broke up and she got the blood.
Don't ever be concerned about "being a baby" or being apprehensive about any treatments. Everyone here is a great support for whatever a person's concerns might be. I hope your treatments go well and know that a lot of good thoughts and prayers are coming your way from the people here.
Hugs,
Cathy J.
