I also lost a family member to suicide about 20 years ago. My 22 year old sister in law, who I was very close to, shot herself in the chest with a shot gun. She just couldn't live her life knowing that she was 22 and divorced. To me it didn't seem like such a bad thing (her husband was a jerk in my opinion) but to her it was the worst thing in the whole world. I still grieve for her but it does get easier as time goes on. Don't try to forget him but remember him and his life before things got so bad. Just remember that it would have been very hard for you to change his mind at that point so don't feel guilty! By the sounds of it, you did what you could and you tried real hard to help him. Sometimes there is no help that you can give.
