Hi Lalani,
I am no pro at this as I was only diagnosed two months ago (triple negative, stage one). Since then I've had a lumpectomy and two rounds of Taxotere and Cytoxan.
My onc gave me a long list of side effects too which made me really nervous, so I ended up taking Ativan just to get my bod into the chair. I had no nausea or vomiting with either round. I only needed to take the presricption anti-nausea med at home once (more as a preventative since I was going out to lunch with friends and worried about my reaction to a restaurant full of food just two days after chemo).
I tried to focus my energy on staying strong and being proactive. I managed to go for a 25 minute walk almost every day. In the beginning I wasn't sure how I'd do, so I had my husband walk with me. I also took a psyllium fiber supplement every morning and a chewable probiotic every evening. This kept my gut happy. Oh and I nibbled on ginger candy and ate baked potatoes or turkey sandwiches.
The hardest days for me were the 4th and 5th day after treatment. I really just dozed in and out and had a few aches and pains - sort of a flu-like, cruddy feeling- but I didn't need a prescription pain reliever or anything. I gave myself permission to watch a movie mid-day, nap, let my husband cook a frozen meal or order in.
A few days after Rnd 1 I felt really good again. With round two I felt good after one week, but I do get tired easier.
Will you be taking a Neulasta shot? I didn't get one with round one and got a three-day 102 degree fever days 8-10. With round two I gladly took the shot and ta-da no fever.
I hope this helps a bit and I wish you strength.
I just figure if this raises my odds from 70 to 85% survival, then it's worth a few months of being bald.
Fight like a girl,
Lori
