My 14 year old male German Shepherd X had a an emergency Splenectomy on 11/13/04. The original Biopsy Report diagnosed it as a Malignant Fibrous Histiocytoma. In December, 2004, we consulted with a Veterinary Oncologist (Dennis Bailey, DVM) at Long Island Veterinary Specialists in Plainview, NY. He obtained a second sample of the original tumor and had it sent to Colorado State University for a "2nd" biopsy to confirm the original diagnosis. A Chest X-Ray was also done and it was normal. The Biopsy Report came back and also diagnosed the tumor as a Malignant Fibrous Histiocytoma. I am told that this is a rare type of cancer and not much is known or documented in the treatment of it in dogs. It falls into the broad category of "Soft Tissue Sarcomas". An ultrasound was done in December, 2004 and it showed abnormal lymph nodes in his abdomen and a few nodes on his liver. We did 2 chemo treatments with Doxorubicin (3 weeks apart) followed-up with another ultrasound on 2/24/05. Unfortunately, there was no change and the cancer has spread a little more on his liver. Now Dr. Bailey wants to try another 2 chemo treatments with Ifosphamide, which has been successful in humans with "Soft Tissue Sarcomas". As it is a rather new chemo drug that has not been used in dogs very much at all, it is kind of like taking another "shot in the dark". A friend of mine suggested trying Holistic Medicine as an alternative to chemo. She recommended a Dr. Wen (Hampton Veterinary Hospital in Speonk (Long Island) New York. Someone on a Pet Forum where I posted a message highly recommended you as being an expert in the field of holistically treating cancer in dogs. Have you ever treated a dog with this particular type of cancer? If so, please advise me if you believe Brandon can be helped at this point. I am really desperate for information because I just can't sit back and watch my beautiful dog die from this dread disease without trying to help him further. Thank you very much for your help.
