Posted by Mishka's Mom on 1/4/2005, 6:38 pm, in reply to "switching from dry food to canned" I feed my resident cat, Mishka, raw food. I feed my ferals Friskies, but that's not a premium brand. As a treat I give them Sheba, and they love that, but that's twice the price of Friskies. I stock up on Friskies when it's on sale for 25 cents a can. Have you read the link at the top of the page: Cat-a-Tonic Nutrition & CC Page I assume your vet wants you to switch to canned because the dry food dehydrates cats and they need more water in their diet. Feeding raw gives them the water they need. But if that's not where you want to go, then try various brands of canned food. But I would also suggest you add water to the dry food before serving it. I add between 1/2" to 1" of hot water to the dry food and let that sit for about 5 min. while the kibble soaks up the water. I use a flat bottomed bowl for that, otherwise if you use a rounded bottom bowl, the hot water won't cover all the kibble. I don't feed the kibble to my resident cat, Mishka, but only give it to my ferals.

Iams used to be a good brand, but they changed their formula several years ago, and I don't know anyone whose cat likes it now.....lol!
That would be a good place to start as to the best/premium cat foods.
