Hey Mike. I work at a pet food retailer in California called Pet Food Express. At Pet Food Express, we provide the highest quality of pet foods in California. All our foods are free of any animal by-product, unspecified animal fat, aritificial colorings and flavorings, and any BHA or BHT. We carry products that contain canola oil and it has many skin and coat benefits as well as digestive aids. While it is true that the actual seed the oil comes from is toxic, the refined version of this only contains about .3% of this which is completely safe for animal and human consumption. While others may see this as too much of a risk, I have seen no detriment to my own Austrailian Cattle Dog's health as i have been feeding him a food with canola oil for over 9 months now. As a single source of information, I suggest you continue to research this issue as it is quite controversial. But as for me, I will continue to feed my dog foods with canola oil.
