Posted by Aloysios on 7/21/2006, 8:04 pm My 8-year old house feral Redwing starting acting funny about 2 months ago. We treated her homeopathically to the best of our ability (squirting her in the face with water and remedy mixed in) and a few days later, were able to catch her to bring her to the local vet. The vet played guess the malady, since it was not at all clear, and gave shots of an antibiotic (sorry, I forget which one) in case of a bacterial infection and wormed her in case of a parasitic infection. She seemed also to have a left middle or outer ear infection, which we've been treating as well. She quickly tamed, as she was very immobile. We continued the homeopathy, and got little (tiny) improvements from ignatia 30C and carbo veg 30C. She worsened over the next few days and her limbs became increasingly stiff and paralyzed (as in early rigormortis) and twitchy in her face. Her eyes were moving strangely too--the vet called it vertical nystagmus. We decided to give a shot of steroids as a last-ditch effort. We also put her on daily clinadmycin, and daily prednisone. She got much better, but the best she got was to be able to run, if scared, with a very stiff back, unable to jump, and wobbly and tired. We very slowly weaned her off the steroids and she seemed fine, then crashed (paralyzed to the point the vet said don't feed her, as she might choke). The vet gave her another shot of steroids (Medrol, I think, or its animal-use equivalent), and she perked back up. She may be improving slightly over the last week on no more clindamycin and lyssin 30C daily, but nothing to write home about. For two moths, I've been syringe-feeding her 5.5 oz of a/d and sometimes c/v per day and a lot of water (mostly via syringe, at times subQ). She is quite cooperative, purrs for me a lot when I pet her and is "there" mentally. However, she mostly lies on her bed (she's in a bathroom with a window), pees and poops in or near the litterbox, sometimes in her bed and won't eat or drink on her own. The local vet's working diagnosis is a lymphoma in her ear/brain causing neurological problems, that shrinks on steroids. However, he does say she looks pretty good--shiny coat, etc. He says no to Lymes, although I'm going to ask him for a Lyme-related antibiotic next if the remedy doesn't work. He said we can do an MRI but doesn't think it would help too much and we are afraid we'd lose her under sedation. In addition, if it is a tumor, it would be extremely dicey to remove it. We have thought of chiropractic, but it seems to be neurogical, so we don't think it would help much. Last thing--we tried an animal communicator, who said it felt viral to her. We are using custom-made flower essences for her in her water. Any ideas or similar experiences? It is all so strange, sad and frustrating. I feel like there's hope but I don't know what to do. In addition, it's been super-expensive, and our budget doesn't allow for unlimited tries with alternative vets (i.e., we can't run around trying chiropractic, Reiki, massage, acupuncture, etc.). Thanks for any ideas!!!!!

(long, sorry)
