anyone use nosodes?

I just ordered my first... are they the same as homeopathic remedies? what makes them a nosode? I am using them for the horses... strangles preventative.. which is streptococcus. Just wondering if this is something I can be ordering myself.. and mixing.. and save a lot of money...
is that correct that is has to be given once a month for life?
