but we've been together for 11 yrs. I home school my oldest boy (8) while
getting his younger brothers (4 & 2) to "play along". I am a Children's
book consultant of 4 yrs. Just started working an internet business in the
last few months to help supplement our income, so my horse & dog/cat
"collection" doesn't take away from the family.
I have owned & trained (just basic) horses for 13 yrs. I have bought 2
horse trader horses(babies), a 17+ yr. old gelding that was bought from an
auction a wk prior, got an abused Arabian mare in exchange for a car, and 3
yrs ago we got a malnurished & abused 3 1/2 yr. old mare who was also VERY
preg. she actually had 2 abusive owners prior to us, but the first one did
the damage. She turned out to be an awesome kids horse & is currently owned
by a 9 yr.old little girl. And we currently own a yrling Red Roan filly. 3
dogs (13 yr. old lab x female (owned for 13 yrs.,abandoned by previous owner
as a pup) 12 yr. old Rottie female (x-breed mill, owned for 6-7 yrs old
after previous owner abandoned her after moving), 2 yr.old Blue Heeler
(owned for 2 yrs since he was 6 wks old, needed a new home), own (sort of) 2
wild stray kitties (1 was becoming a chew toy for the dog & the other
starving...lost mom both are about 8 or 12 wks old) & 1 Maine Coon kitty and
3 geese all were under weight & looked pitiful, now have bright shiny
feathers & are filling out (& have one that's laying eggs...this is a first
for us)
All of my horses, cats or dogs have either been abandoned, abused or needed
new homes due to various reasons. Don't like any animal being abused or
neglected, do what I can to give them a good loving home w/plenty of food &
water & attention. Due to renting I can't take in as many horses or dogs as
I'd like so I try to find homes for those in need. We have bottle fed 2 baby
calves, kept 3 from dying just this year. I've been working w/ 2 Llamas to
get them "docile" which is easier to do w/just one instead of 2 & in 11 mos.
we may have a baby one to deal w/ (these are our neighbor's Llamas)
teaching my boys to work w/horses & how to care for the animals. As soon as
we can we'll probably add turtle owner to our list of critters as that's the
next pet my oldest son would like to have, but we need to get a bigger tank
than the 3-10 gal. one's we have.
anything that we can w/o making it tight for the family. I have learned a
lot over the past yr or 2 about horse abuse/neglect that I didn't realize
was big (even in my area) & would like to start to do more to make a
