On Tuesday we received a phone call from the Sponsorship Director at Jack
Daniels who said he was looking at a big, huge stack of papers from Suicide
Erasers! He confirmed that Jack Daniels had contacted Omak Stampede, Inc., on
May 30 demanding they discontinue use of the Jack Daniels logo on their
website, as the Omak Stampede was not authorized to use it. He also reported the
local distributor had been contacted by Stampede representatives asking for
sponsorship dollars for the Stampede and Suicide Race, which was immediately
refused because of the issues surrounding the Suicide Race.
Royal, and hopefully others, the Suicide Race may become best known as the Omak
Corporate Suicide Race! Last week's announcement of sponsorship withdrawals
from the Stampede sparked news interest in the Seattle Times, Wenatchee
World, Tri-Cities Herald and more. The story also ran on NPR and KVI radio, and
KOMO 4 (ABC) and KIRO 7 (CBS) television, among others.
