Just got 'Dominoes' the latest release from the band that just keeps on raising the standard in Cajun music. This is a Dual Disc which means you get a standard CD on one side and a DVD on the other. The CD continues were 'Bon Reve' left off, with terrific contributions from David Greely and Sam Broussard on the writing and performing side as well as from Steve himself. The album has a traditional sound yet there are new compositions and reworkings of traditional songs that are just brilliant. For me the album did not quite have the 'wow' factor of 'Bon Reve' but the standard is so high with the band in a purple patch of creativity. As well as the title track, the stand out track for me is 'Elise' an instrumental written by Steve following the birth of his first child. But the bonus is the DVD with studio tracks from the album, interviews with the band, comments from Barry Jean Ancelet and a live performance of 'Bon Reve' from from Pat's in Henderson, La which puts you on stage (in front of a wonderful mural of the swamp) at one of the bands home venues - great stuff and great value! Just one word of warning - the CD may not play in some car CD players which use a slot entrance, but should play in all other CD players.
