Another fantastic Gloucester festival really did showcase the best of British bands. It is credit to them that over the years their standard has grown so that although it was a shame there were no Louisiana bands this year the quality was such that we didnt really miss them. In fact a few people said they thought it brought the musicians closer to the audience somehow.
Chris Hall again did a wonderful job putting it all together - we owe you Chris! The festival showed that we have the personalities to grace any stage: Chris himself, Rees Wesson, Gavin Lewery, Phil Underwood, Lil Jim, to name a few and it was good to see some faces again from a few years ago.
There were stand out performances every day with Petite et la Gross kicking off things in great style on Friday night through to the well oiled Bearcats machine bringing things to a close on Sunday night - and what a great gesture from Chris to invite and encourage some people who had taken part in Gavins accordion workshop, on to the stage for the final number of the festival.
And there was the Audience with Gavin Lewery - a great idea looking back to the heady days of the start of Cajun activity in the Uk and the Cajun boom of the nineties. But hey Gavin - dont be too pesimistic mon amis! People still like CZ dance music and are still coming to it, not in the numbers as back then of course but reports of its demise here are way too premature! And it has to be said that it is the combination of music AND dance that attracts them in my experience. We all love you Gavin and please dont think you have failed in a crusade to bring the music to a wider audience, I dont think that could ever have happened. Be good to debate all this with you over a pint or two sometime!
Cheers and thanks,
Glyn
