Yup! At one time Manchester was a corner of Britain's Cajun Triangle. It stretched across the Pennines to the Triangle club and Malcolm Manning's accordion shop in Bradford and southwards down to Derby, Chris Hall and the mighty Swamp Club. In between was cajun heaven! When people starting queuing around the block to get into the Manchester Cajun Club and the Lord Mayor staged a cajun night in the Town Hall, complete with crawfish and long necked Jax Beer there was no doubt that cajun music, dance and food had really arrived.
It has all largely gone now. Still...maybe even now, in a back room somewhere, some kid is about to drop the needle on his first record of Nathan Abshire or Balfa Brothers and maybe it might just start all over again!
