Hi John,
I am on the edge of the North Yorks Moors (20 miles north of York) so wrong side of the Pennines really. If you are into the dancing at all, we do weekly Cajun and Zydeco dance workshops from time to time and there is a couple who come over from Manchester some times for them! If we get enough interest we put on one of our two local bands at the end of the series. We have a new series coming up in April / May and I will post the details on the gig list of this site shortly and also email you full info.
There used to be a very big Cajun scene in Manchester a few years ago and I believe a guy called Dave Eatock runs Cajun music jam sessions in a pub in the Chorlton area. He is a great guy and very enthusiastic. Does anyone know any more about these - I cant seem to find his details at the moment.
There also used to be a scene on the Wirral but haven't heard from them in recent times.
Not much help I'm afraid but good luck finding something - I will let you know anything further if I find it. Do you play an instrument?
Glyn
