Last Saturdays Hottboxx gig at Darley Abbey showed absolutely and completely why this sort of event is so essential to maintaining interest in and to enjoying Cajun & Zydeco music and dance in the UK.
It was also great to see people travelling from all over the country to support this one. Three of us came down to the midlands from North Yorks but were delighted to see familiar faces from d London and the south!
With Paul Asher not available, young bassist Tom put in a very able performance, helping Carla and the band to give their usual infectious, fun show and with lots of interaction between band and dancers there were no po-faces here! I particularly enjoyed "Down at the Twist and Shout" - thanks Carla! After a couple of encores, the band reprised their version of "Higher and Higher" with Carla's aunty Dinny (another lady who really rocks!) joining them on maracas to close in a great party atmosphere.
Well done and thanks to Jim, Sue and friends for having the faith to keep putting these dances on.
