It's been fascinating reading all the posts which have sprung up since Jim asked about help with Cajun UK (not as yet a great deal forthcoming..) and I wondered how we could attract a younger crowd to gigs.
My personal view is that by and large a lot of good sense has been spoken. As Bob T said most people when they go out just want to have a great time and The Dawgs mixing of musical styles no doubt brings more people in. I should think a lot of dancers would enjoy some mix of styles of music as long as there were still opportunities to dance a two step or waltz during the evening. I think people realise that things often have to move or change to keep going but it would be a great shame to lose entirely the essence of cajun and zydeco. It would be great to find a good, friendly venue, with bar, in Nottingham/Derby where we could put on some gigs and have some great nights in 2008. On a lighter note..
"An accordion player is returning home from a late night gig. Feeling tired he pulls over for some coffee. While waiting to pay he remembers that he locked his car doors but left his accordion in plain view on the back seat of his car! He rushes out only to discover that he's too late! The car window has been smashed and somebody has thrown in two more accordions."
Jim, I won't add any drummer jokes! Happy New Year to all.
