I wouldn't agree with all of that Steve - when we can , we (members of Elvis Fontenot) do like to get out and see other C/Z bands, but what you have to be aware of is that not all members, in all bands, are huge fans of C/Z!! They might be depping musicians who do C/Z as an aside. Other bands, if they're friends, or we're playing locally, or at festivals, do come along. As for "sitting in" there's an etiquette and a protocol - in Louisiana, many of the musicians hail from a close knit area,if not geographically, certainly musically and will see more of each other on their "circuit". Over here, not so, so musically, you're taking a bigger risk by allowing someone who doesn't know your set , key or arrangements to play along. It does happen, but I guess you have to be there - we once tried to get Eliza Carthy to jam with us, but we didn't get her drunk enough...
As for the dancing - each to their own - I love the spectacle of CZ dancing, but I'm in a band because I can't do it!! There shouldn't be a stigma attached to how you dance to a band and sometimes, some members of C/Z crowds need to be a little more tolerant of people who don't know the "right" moves. I think you're right about the stigma of dancing in couples though and that's a shame.
As for the Cajun UK folk not posting, I think it's very sensible that they sit back and take in what the views of others are. I think it's brilliant that this thread is dragging people out of the woodwork and is showing that there is enthusiasm out there.
