Last Sunday with Jesse Lege, Bobby Michot and friends at the Cajun Barn in Eltham (SE London) was really quite an exceptional evening. It was an international line-up – Bobby Michot is living in France and Joel Savoy (fiddle) came from Louisiana with Jesse Lege. Carol Weston played a light touch on drums and percussion plus triangle. Pauline Groenendijk from Holland (Cajun Company) was also playing fiddle and Mitch Proctor played the pedal steel guitar. They started at 6.45pm and played beautiful traditional Cajun music through to after 10.15 without a break. When Jesse had a short rest Pauline’s partner Peter Vroom played accordion. For a few tunes later on we had a delightful duel of fiddles with Joel and Pauline. There was a great atmosphere in that lovely Tudor barn and everyone I talked to loved the band. Many thanks to the musicians and to Lynne and Steve for arranging it.
