Well, this was my first time at Saulieu.Had a great though somewhat exhausting time, especially trying to stay up 'till 4am. My legs took two days to recover from the experience. Nice atmosphere at the Cafe Parisien too. Have to admit that the best band as far as I was concerned were the Cajun Roosters, yes good ol' Chris Hall and his german friends. Though I loved the raw edge of Zydeco Joe......especially entertaining to watch was his bass player, who most of the time played with just his left hand while continuing to smoke with his right. Jimmy Thibodeaux though obviously a great melodeon player stuck to playing mostly "Swampop", not really my stuff at a Cajun/Zydeco festival. Something that could do with changing is the outdoor dance floor. Not nearly large enough and was constantly barged off the floor by the boring line dancers. I did notice there is a bit of room for expansion as long as you include the small tree in the middle (where the current floor ends). Also for vegetarians, food choice is a bit slim! Two of the restaurants having wiped almost their entire menu to provide some sort of Gumbo to go with the festival. Anyway, having said that I shall still go again somtime and it was nice seeing so many Brits there.
