Posted by chris hall on June 22, 2006, 12:00 pm Even more impact was made on the judges. A panel of four independent judges from France, Holland, Germany and the UK voted Chris Hall (bearcats / rcajun / roosters) best Cajun Accordion player, Lil Jim (deepzone zydeco) best Zydeco accordion player, Mitch Proctor (bearcats / rcajun) best Cajun fiddle player, and Cajun Roosters got best Cajun album award for the newly released "Crank it up" Its the third year of the awards and the results were revealed at last weeks Raamsdonksveer festival in Holland. Also (from the southern counties) Zyderythmics (not from round 'ere ) got best Zydeco recording and come to think of it Sam murray and Sue Warren both of whom live in Derby were on that too! Must be something in the water. Thanks to everyone who voted and see y'all at the next gigs More info about the awards here www.cajunweb.de/award/index.htm and more about The Roosters and Cajun/Zydeco happenings in Germany in general on Michael Benteles information packed site at http://www.cajunweb.de/

Just to let everyone know that the Derby area made a significant impact on the European Cajun and Zydeco Awards this year scooping a total of 6 (yes 6!) first prizes. In the internet voting The Cajun Roosters (two derby guys and three from germany) won best Cajun band and Elvis Fontenot and his Sugar Bees from Stoke won best Zydeco band. (ok not derby but its close and they were formed after they went to so many R.Cajun gigs they decided it would be cheaper to form their own band!) Voting was on the basis of votes sent in through emails.
