Well there certainly was an advert that featured the Delafose gang and I was very pleased to see it since at the time I was bringing John Delafose and, after he sadly passed away, his son Geno over to these shores for annual tours. It was a great time for zydeco. The longest tour was three weeks of non stop gigs at a time when lots of people knew about Cajun but many were just discovering Zydeco. One famous Cajun dance club which shall remain nameless refused to book him because they said they said it wasnt suitable for dancing to .... not being cajun and all! How times change. I have some great memories of that time. And yes Germaine Jack (bushman jack as he was known but that another story) featured heavily in the advert jumping around doing tricks on his rubboard and the tune was Farouche....a zydeco version of the amadee two step. I seem to remember it was filmed in New Orleans at The Rock N Bowl but i could be imagining that and walkers crisps rings a bell but i cant be sure. I have it somewhere on video but it would take me 100 years to find it! I also have Germaine Jacks old rubboard which he discarded complete with holes where he wore through the metal which I guess must have been the one on the advert. Incidentally the rest of the band at that time would have been Charles Prudhomme on Guitar and brother Tony Delafose on bass with Germaine on rubboard and drums and Geno on drums and accordion. John used to let Geno kick off on accordion for the first half and then he would take over accordion in the second set and on some gigs play the odd tune of fiddle. The last time i remember John getting the fiddle out would have been at The Weavers in London but for the life of me i cant remember for sure what that advert was for!
