Posted by Belinda on 6/8/2002, 6:15 am The only bones I feed are raw chicken necks and at times wings for some of the other dogs, but I really do prefer the necks. I have 2 puppies raised solely on this diet, one Dobie male and a male whippet, both are always commented on about the amount of bone they have That's it and when you get used to it, it takes nothing to prepare. I vitamise up bananas, peaches (canned or fresh), pineapple, carrots, spinach, silverbeet, papaya, pumpkin, parsely, ..anything like that...no onions but plenty of garlic and I add some ginger and dry sage, rosemary and mint to the mix. I make a whole heap of it and freeze it into the amount I will need each day.
feeding raw food
Now, I was always a firm believer in NOT feeding raw things like bones and meat. Years down the track I realised I was feeding the wrong foods and bones. Having gone through many different foods through the years, I am totally in love with this food and will never change. This is the diet I have found perfect for all the dogs............
o.k. here you go...
2 tablespoons of raw unprocessed wheat bran
1 tablespoon of wheatgerm
1 or 2 tablespoons of vitamised veggies and fruit of any mix, although make sure there's plenty of spinach and greens in it.
1 tablespoon of Brewers Yeats
1/2 tablespoon of Kelp
1 teaspoon of fish oil or 2 capsules and 1 evening primrose oil and some sesame oil
1 tablespoon of Lecithin
1 egg yolk
1 teaspoon of Glucosamine and Chondroitin (I add this for their joints later on in life)
and about 4 or 6 chicken necks.
You don't have to add the lecithin or Glcosamine unless you want too or the sesame oil...it's just my little thing I always add and with a 12 year old I want to have forever....I just try to make sure she has everything she ever needs
You can add a tablespoon of cottage cheese or plain yoghurt if you want to each meal and I always add a couple of canned sardines twice a week.
