Rosie's my current foster, that I've had all of 2 weeks as a foster. She is
being treated for demodex mange. She came to our rescue essentially hairless,
(I'm told hairless Chinese Cresteds have more hair than she did) with a
scabrous "cap", similar to the scab from a bad sunburn. After months of
dips, injections, vitamins, and oral medication she now has roughly 80% body
hair! (Her current regimen includes oral Ivamec, Palamegra(sp), puppy
vitamins and Pedigree puppy formula -- when she doesn't sneak the other dogs'
Nutro Lamb & Rice! as well as weekly grooming and baths) These pictures were
taken about a month ago. The naked spot on her right hip is already starting
to hair up & fill in. Rosie's an active pup, exercising my two, attempting
to play with that small black strange looking dog that keeps slapping her in
the face when she gets too rough (oh, well he can't be all bad, he leaves her
"tootsie rolls") In another couple of weeks she'll need to go back for a
skin scraping. After two consecutive negative scrapings, she'll be spayed &
available for adoption through Doberman Rescue of Nebraska. (we're estimating
mid to late September) As she was at rock bottom with this demodex, she'll
need to be watched all her life, as stress or any compromise to her immunity
may bring on another occurance.
