Metropolitan Joseph appealed to the Bulgarians in Washington to tread on the steps of the Bulgarians in Chicago. They contracted a collective loan for $1.2 million and built a new church. The Bulgarians are ready to build a church of theirs but it depends on the decision of the Holy Synod, Poptodorova added. At Easter she visited St John of Rila. Poptodorova pointed out that Bulgaria had not a building for a church in the American capital city. At the time, the building used to be a residence of our Embassy. In 1981 the Foreign Ministry bought a new building for the embassy and transferred the old one to the Holy Synod.
