
Posted by N on March 20, 2002, 9:16:30 Standartnews The Holy Synod will let Pope John Paul II to attend the holy liturgy to be served by Patriarch Maxim and the bishops on May 24 in the 'Saint Alexander Nevsky' cathedral, Neophit, the Dorostol-Cherven metropolitan said yesterday. However, the pope won't serve with His Holiness, because the Orthodox canon prohibits it. On May 26 Pope John Paul II will serve mass in Plovdiv in connection with the Day of the Slav letters and culture and in tribute to the saint brothers Cyril and Methodius he proclaimed patrons of Europe 10 years ago. Patriarch Maxim convenes the Holy Synod for an extraordinary sitting on May 26 to distribute the duties of the bishops in connection with the visit of Pope John Paul II. (SB)
