Jerusalem, March 12 (BTA) - A special room dedicated to Bulgaria will be opened at the Yad Vashem International Institute for Holocaust research in Jerusalem. It will house the archives evidencing the rescue of Bulgarian Jews from the death camps during World War II, the Bulgarian National Television said in its evening news programme on Tuesday evening in a despatch from Jerusalem quoting Israeli Ambassador to Bulgaria Emanuel Zisman. At a special ceremony two Bulgarian metropolitans, who later became Exarch Stefan and Patriarch Kiril, were recognized Righteous Among the Nations by the Yad Vashem Institute, honouring them for helping rescue the Bulgarian Jews during World War II. Bulgarian President Georgi Purvanov sent a special message to the participants in the ceremony, National Television said. The names of the Eastern Orthodox Church dignitaries were added to those on the Wall of Honour in the Garden of the Righteous at Yad Vashem. They were awarded the highest honour by the Jewish community. The ceremony in Jerusalem was attended by about 200 Bulgarian Jews from all parts of Israel. "What happened today is not only an expression of our respect, but of our love for and gratitude to the whole Bulgarian people and the Bulgarian Eastern Orthodox Church," one of the 49,000 rescued Bulgarian Jews told the National Television correspondent. By tradition, the certificates of honour were handed to the Inheritors of Exarch Stefan and Patriarch Kiril, Maria Popova and Associate Professor Kiril Markov.
