
Posted by Nikolov on December 4, 2001, 4:50:15 Silvia Nikolova The two Bulgarian Orthodox temples in Istanbul and the one in Edirne to be overhauled, Patriarch Maxim and spiritual leader of Turkey's Muslims Mehmed Nuri Yildiz agreed upon at their meeting in the Synodal Palace yesterday. His Holiness will bless the restoration in person, after he accepted the invitation to pay a visit to Turkey in early 2002. The Muslims in Bulgaria are provided every possibility to freely practice their religion and study the Koran, Mehmed Nuri Yildiz said in a statement after the meeting. He, in his turn, promised his full cooperation to Bulgarian Orthodox community in Turkey. Patriarch Maxim was sorry for not succeeding in treating his guest to coffee, for during the Ramadan the Muslims are not allowed to eat and drink till sunset. (ML) The religious leader of Muslems in Turkey and head of the Directorate for Religious Regulations Mehmed Nuri Yilmiz arrived in Bulgaria for the first time ever.
