Rolen or Manny

I'm in a H2H league & I'm not doing very well. I have Rolen as a contract player & Manny Rameriez as a franchise player. I lose Rolen at the end of the season, so here is my problem should I trade Manny for a 1st rd pick ( we protect 4 players) & then I can transition Rolen to a franchise tag ?? the 1st rd pick will be a low 1st rd pick. scoring categories (2 sb/2dbl/2 tpl/3 hr/1 rbi). We start a positional player & a DH.
