I'd go Santana, Beckett, then Renteria. I agree with the other guys - Santana in the 18th is impossible to pass up.

: Similar to Todd, I'm having a hard time looking
: past Santana. I hear you on building your
: staff in the teens, but there's less
: likelihood you'll get a K/9 guy like Santana
: anywhere after the 9th round this year, the
: key to him being such a steal last year was
: his uncertain status in the rotation; it
: supressed his value.
: I think Santana could arguably be one of the
: top 8 starters taken in serpentine drafts
: this year. That places him somewhere in the
: 4th-6th rounds. That is a 12 round
: difference, he's the ace of the Twins staff,
: they've kept the bullpen reasonably strong,
: they have a solid O, and they play in the
: weakest division, pitching wise, in the AL.
: All this plus the K/9 numbers, to me, make
: him a no brainer protectable. I'd consider
: Renteria second similiar to Todd.

: Are there lots of other SS being kept in your
: league? It seems like in a 10 team league
: you could get a good SS- Cabrera, A-Rod,
: Jeter, Nomar, Tejada, Furcal, etc. I really
: like Santana with your 18th
: round....especially in a 5x5 with his Ks. To
: get a top pitcher in your 18th round would be
: VERY nice. I will be curious what others
: think.

: Hello all,
: I'm new to the list and looking forward to
: exchanging
: some fantasy info. I'm in a 10 team, 5X5
: league. We have
: traditionally had a one-keeper rule...you can
: keep one
: player in place of your first round pick.
: This year,
: however, we are allowed to keep one player,
: but in the
: round in which you drafted him in 2003. So
: bargains
: are worth more. Thus, I am faced with the
: following
: predicament: C. Beltran - 5th round
: Sheffield - 6th round
: Renteria - 10th round
: Beckett - 17th round
: J. Santana - 18th round
: Yes, I got some huge bargains last year. It's
: a big question of value and what round these
: guys
: would ordinarily go in. Right now, due to the
: dearth
: of shortstops, I'm pretty much set on keeping
: Renteria. I feel like I can take Beltran with
: the 7th pick and make a run at SPs in the
: early teens rounds. Your thoughts?
