My guess is that Sanchez is being groomed as the future closer, even though he is currently not the closer at Nashville. I believe that Corey is an older player that's been around some and is not really a prospect. A glance at Duaner's stats at Nashville are 3 Wins, 1 Loss, 0 Saves, 2.68 ERA, 37 Innings, 37 Hits, 15 BBs. Not bad, but not quite closer material as yet. Pre-season, the concern with Sanchez was his control, which seems to still be something of a concern. The Pirates obtained Sanchez because he has tremendous "stuff", the concern is that he has to develop control to be an effective big league closer. But, with the Pirates in a position to conduct a fire sale in the near future, Sanchez is as closer-worthy as anyone in the organization based upon his skills.
: Is Duaner being 'groomed' as a closer still? I
: see Mark Corey (sp?) getting all the saves
: for Nashville. How does Duaner figure
: into Pitssburgh's future plans?
: Thanks.
