Posted by Lefty on 6/11/2003, 5:07 pm, in reply to "Doug -- In a bigger deal, would you trade German for him?" 1) Do you think that your direct competition is going after these players? 2) Do you want to win this year? How much would the trade (with and without Koch/German) help you? If you want ot win this year, it seems to me that you get help for every category and only give up Blalock (in original deal). Rivera is a throwaway with the Yankees, Kingsale is hurt and didn't perform well when he was healthy and Harper is a nice setup guy who remain in that role until/unless Carter falls flat on his face. As for Koch/German, it can only help you this year as Koch should get more save opportunities and the ERA and ratio impact should not be drastically (given the small number of innings). --Previous Message--
Two things:
: Here's my quandry.
: One team in my league is about to dump and I
: am in a tight battle for first (AL only
: 5X5). I have Sasaki for saves with
: German.
: The trade is a great one...But I am concerned
: that I am giving too much if I include
: German.
: Right now, it's: Palmiero $30
: Ichiro $38
: Vizquel $14
: Clemens $18
: For Blalock $8
: Juan Rivera $1
: Kingsale $2
: T Harper $1
: I may be able to get Koch and Hillenbrand
: added if I agree to German.
: Doug, am I nuts NOT to do the latter part?
: It would guarantee the deal going through.
: Thanks.

: A flyer? He's a closer, albeit not a very
: good
: one. He's certainly better than Matt
: Anderson, though. I rather doubt that Kim
: will be a closer for Boston--they need him
: in the rotation and he is performing well
: there.

: I would consider koch a closer in name only.
: he
: will very quickly go the way of fireballer
: matt anderson. I'd look other places for
: cheap saves, and the possibility that kim
: will become boston's closer.
