Madelene Allen (3)
When I first met Madelene she and I were with a filming crew (South Coast Productions), complete with helicopter and sea-divers - making a video record of the Islands - result - the splendid 45 min video so aptly named "No place for people". This was her second journey down to those uninhabited (Nature Reserve) Sub-Antarctic Islands far to the south of New Zealand - her first was 2 years previously when, with husband Robin, son Bruce, and daughter Brenda, the family attempted to find and follow the footsteps of Robert Holding. (see vale Madelene) Her fascination with 'all things Aucklands' prompted 2 more trips in later years, her last being in 2001 when she was researching, amongst other things, data for an intended new book of the failed Hardwicke Settlement of the early 1850's.
Goodbye Madelene, I was very privileged to have known you.
