Hello Ferg,
My gr gr Grandfather was apparently on Auckland Is. in 1848. His name was Ellis James Bell. Family story is that he made the first wedding ring on Auckland Is. We don't really know what he
was doing there but apparently made a fair bit of
money. He was accidently killed in Sydney (Aust.) in 1881..
