Posted by John Gene - no doubt you will read this sometime - one of my fellow Çapers", Graham Turbott, spent several months with Alan Eden during the 1944 survays - Graham is right now doing final edits with his Publishing folk on a book of the Scientific and Botany aspects of the Islands (and including a section on the Cape Expeditions of 41/45)- hopes for a printing in near future. John. PS Two more Cape Expeditioners recently gone, now only 7 of us left!

Hi Ferg -- your time is getting near -- hope all is well for you and your plans for November. Marvellous spring weather right now in this part of the world, but of course as we well know the furious fifties have a climatical mind all of their own. The best I can do is to dream of the fine days I did experience there in 43, 45, and 95 (few and all as they might have been) and ask the Sub Antarctic weather gods to look favourably over your shoulder during your forthcoming sojourn.
Interesting note from Gene McDonough - the Auckland Islands histories and legends reach many far corners don't they - as I am continuing to find out - even in my small town of 9000 souls interest is never ending - one guest speak leads to another, five engagements here this year - and on all occasions questions indicate quest for greater knowledge of those Islands.
Cheers, and the best of best wishes.
