Posted by Ferg I have part of the story in my book Wake of the Invercauld .. http://www.ouareau.com/inverc/wake.htm The classic book on the General Grant is Wreck of the General Grant by Keith Eunson, ISBN 0 589 0080 3 published in 1974 by A.h. & A.W. Reed. There are always a few copies available through the various book sellers. Watch abe books Where are you living now. Would love to know the family memories ... who was your 1/2 uncle? What I am trying to do with Voices is track back to the memories of people involved ... soon these stories will be lost. I am going back to the Aucklands in November, are you in NZ??? Cheers

How fantastic to see your message on the Auckland Island Bulletin Board!!!! I am the webmaster, and author of Wake of the Invercauld, and am in the process of writing a book, "Voices, Tales of the Sub-antarctic" and have a chapter on the wreck of the General Grant.
My great grandfather was one of the three survivors of the wreck of the Invercauld in 1864.
Thanks so much for writing
