I am another 2 x great granddaughter of Joseph Jewell. As far as I know Joseph only fathered one child, but she had 11 children. A picture I have from about 1940 shows her with at least 15 grandchildren. I have seen the film made in about 1978 about the shipwreck, good viewing.
Now here is some information that may upset some Jewell researchers, Joseph's death certificate states he and wife Mary Ann had no children. As does a the Book "Down a Cobbled Street" by Sheila Ellis (her grandmother Alice was Josephs niece).
Family gossip has it that Mary Ann became barren whilst shipwrecked. As she was the only female survivor and being a direct descendent of Joseph I found that rather sad. I discovered all of this whilst researching the General Grant.
