Hello, I do not know that this will reach you, but your mail readers should forward this. It is very important. It is about Marblehead, MA and I believe you would be concerned and have an interest in our community. I spoke recently with John Kelley, at Haleys in Marblehead who met you. I am an attorney in Boston and of course, your show reaches me very much for many reasons. My note is not about me or that. We like to think we promote arts here in Marblehead, and we have had for the past ten years the only youth (9-16) Shakespeare theatre program in the country. The program director is connected with the Royal Shakespeare Company in England. The children that move on from this program are not only gifted actors, but they have a sense of reality and humanity that is rare. Of course they would, they became connected with the BARD!! Not may people understand that. The Board of Selectmen of the town don't. This evening they decided that at after 10 years, the "Rebel Shakespeare Company" can not meet at their location at Fort Sewall, a public park, for various legal reasons, that are not completely sound. These children have spent many years reciting Shakspeare overlooking Marblehead harbor and have embraced the experience. Very few thespians get that opportunity and it is being taken away. We are forming a corporation and finding other resources. I write to you because I would appreciate your support, not financially, but as a professional who understands the necessity of this type of theatrical training. If you are interested, I can provide you with more information about this program. I understand that this may seem small, but when you think of this type of training for children, it is very large and rare. I hope you will be interested. Pleae contact me if you are. I can be reached by mail at Joanne C. Smith, 189 Atlantic Avenue, Marblehead, MA 01945 or by telephone: 781-639-1571.
