i got a maple 10 x 6 and it sounds nice. A 12 x 8 probably would sound good though. you can still set a 12 x8 low and flat, just put it a little closer to the highhats. My friend also has a 12 x6 and it sounds fine. Either way is fine, even though bigger usualy does sound a little better.
