So I wrapped them. I did it in silver glass glitter. I'd have to say that there is no noticeable sound change. And for anyone looking to do this, the glass glitter wraps are very thick, so if there would have been a change in sound, this wrap would have been the one to do it. I used the 3m glue rather than tape. I made a certain type of a jig to keep everything straight. I kept 1/4" off the bearing edge. I would say this, if you do plan on doing it, I suggest the glue vs. tape. I read an interesting arcticle about resonation. The jist of it is that drums will resonate more as a whole solid unit rather than creating air pockets that tape might cause. Yes it is pretty permanent, but I never worry about things coming apart.
