I don't hear any difference if the shells are laquered or covered, the dw kit you played proves that there's nothing wrong with wraping your kit. Basicly, there are two ways of wrapping, you either glue it on or use double-sticking tape.. If the job is done well, I don't see any difference between the methods, but if you use tape, you can always remove the wrap more easily. Ive seen some instructional videos regarding this, and a friend of mine used double-sticking tape to wrap his home-made drum-kit (with keller shells), it looks great.
