So there are a lot of opinions out there on drum wraps. I've been on the fence and back and forth thinking about what I should do. I have wooden shells that have been laquer finished like the top dog companies do and they sound good. At this point, my drums have enough rim rash and scrapes on them that I have seen enough and want my gigging kit to look good again. I happened to visit a local drum shop and fell in love with a silver glass glitter finish on a DW kit. The kit sounded great. Regardless of the silver glass glitter wrap being on the shells, the kit sounded warm with a good resonating tom and kick. So now I am torn on putting a plastic wrap finish over my shells because of some of the negative opinions I heard. I know there is truth to some of the stuff I heard. But if someone has done it already and thought it was good or bad, I'd like to hear from you. For instance, does DW do something so different with their maple shells that I'll never get that tone? Any opinions and comments would be greatly apprecaited. My shells are the 6 ply toms and 8 ply bass all Maple. Not doing the snare if I do it. Hope to hear from someone.
