Ok, now that I have had a couple days to compose myself...
3 coats of tung oil really brought out rich golden-brown hues and the grain pattern. I have applied the 1st coat of clear gloss and it's drying.
The Dunnett R-class throwoff really helped the Ludwig acrolite a whole lot.
Mistake #1: I went to stain the maple hoops with minwax "natural oak". The shade of this stuff against maple is almost totally clear. Oops. I did a quick recovery and applied a gloss clearcoat.
This is going exceptionally well for my first "build.".
First photos will be online saturday after my 3rd coat of clear gloss.
